BHP and Rio Tinto complete megawatt-scale charge on Cat 793 XE haul truck
BHP and Rio Tinto say they have completed the first megawatt-scale charge on a Cat 793 XE battery-electric haul truck under evaluation at Jimblebar mine in Western Australia. The result is a step in testing high-power charging for large mining trucks.
BHP and Rio Tinto said they successfully completed the first “megawatt scale” charge, described as more than 1 MW of power, on one of two Cat 793 XE Early Learner battery-electric haul trucks they are jointly evaluating.
The truck is being tested at BHP’s Jimblebar iron ore mine in Western Australia’s Pilbara.
The companies did not provide further technical details in the source beyond saying the charge was completed safely.
